HMP Global’s Symposium on Advanced Wound Care (SAWC) Fall has established partnerships with the Wound Healing Foundation and debra of America to boost their research and improve care of patients with chronic wounds, such as those with epidermolysis bullosa (EB).

The SAWC Fall is scheduled to take place as an in-person meeting Oct. 29–31 in Las Vegas. For every registration, a donation will be made to each organization, according to HMP Global’s press release. To register, go here.

Established in 1999, the Wound Healing Foundation is a nonprofit dedicated to boosting scientific research and care of wound healing patients by funding research and promoting education and outreach.

debra of America works to improve the quality life of people with EB. Launched in 1980 to fill the gaps in knowledge about EB, the organization offers free services to U.S.-based EB patients and their families, and funds innovative research ultimately aimed at finding a cure for the disease.

“We are proud to partner with the Wound Healing Foundation and debra of America to establish this initiative aimed at impact,” said Tiffney Oliver, vice president of wound care at the North American Center for Continuing Medical Education.

“Registrants to SAWC Fall will now have an active role in shaping the future of wound care by supporting these organizations’ missions to accelerate education and patient outcomes. Together, we can create positive change,” she added.

The SAWC fall meeting brings together members of wound care teams — physicians, nurses, physical therapists, researchers, scientists, podiatrists, and dietitians — with worldwide experts in wound care.

Taking place twice a year, in the spring and fall, SAWC is the world’s largest in-person gathering of wound care professionals. HMP Global, a company that specializes in healthcare events and education, with the goal of improving patient care, has been organizing the SAWC for more than 30 years.

In this year’s fall edition, the “SAWC Change” campaign was launched in recognition of the challenges and efforts of the worldwide wound care community in furthering wound care, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The keynote speaker of this year’s SAWC Fall is Oluyinka Olutoye, MD, PhD, a fetal pediatric surgeon at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio.

During his keynote address on Oct. 29, Olutoye will share the details of his early research and how it evolved to clinical care and wound healing.
